Sand Lizard Monitoring Course in Wales
11-14 May, Tywyn, Gwynedd. A course in monitoring lizards, in particular sand lizards, in dune habitat. The course will include classroom work and field trips to local re-introduction sites where techniques can be learnt in natural habitat and, with luck, we will actually see some of the animals.
This course is open to people who wish to actively participate in both monitoring existing sand lizard populations and investigating new sites in Wales.
Trainees will be responsible for arranging their own transport and accommodation and a packed lunch will be needed for each day.

Toads on Roads - two new crossing points were located and many recently aquired SWWARG volunteers came out to help (frogs and palmate newts were also assisted across the roads)

Hundreds of common frogs seen breeding in a park in Neath. The noise from all those frogs calling was amazing!

We did a small pond dipping session with some school children in conjunction with Mentro Allan mid way through February 2009. Some newt larvae that had overwintered were found....

On the 7th of December 2008 West Glamorgan ARG attended the HCT/BHS meeting in Bournemouth, this was another chance to strengthen connections and have a good chin wag with like minded individuals. We also got a chance to visit the coast and we saw several non native introduced Wall Lizards (Podarcis muralis) basking, thanks to Steve Langham, Reptiles Officer SARG. It was wonderful to see some wild herps even if it was a very cold December day!

The constitution was finally finished and signed at the beginning of December 2008.

All the WGARG committee members recently attended the Amphibian & Reptile Conservation in the North West - One day Conference and Networking Event on the 18th of October 2008 in Manchester. It was very interesting and we met lots of enthusiastic people!
