South & West Wales ARG aim to halt the rapid decline in the indigenous herpetofauna and suitable habitat of the area through pursuing the objectives listed here.

During the early spring of 2008, John Baker, the widespread species officer of the HCT suggested the formation of an ARG in Neath Port Talbot to Peter Hill during a telephone conversation.  Peter immediately became an ARG area contact.  During the course of the ensuing year Peter sought other like minded people.  In due course, a team evolved, and together Mark Barber, Chaela Carrell and Jessica Lloyd formed the West Glamorgan ARG in the autumn of 2008 to cover Neath Port Talbot and the Swansea area.  A significant and urgent need to protect existing as well as create new habitat for the amphibians & reptiles of the area was identified as populations became subject to ever increasing pressure.

Since then, Dr Dan Forman who heads the Conservation Ecology Research Team (CERTs) based at the Institute of Environmental Sustainability, Swansea University has joined the West Glamorgan ARG as honorary president.  Furthermore, Emma Douglas has also joined West Glamorgan ARG and taken up the role of Gower Officer and is currently investigating the ponds of the area.

SWWARG would like to acknowledge the gratefully received support and guidance of so many people, in particular, John baker, John Wilkinson, David Orchard and Jon Cranfield.
